In Fall 2017, IETA became part of a multi-sector Coalition focused on: expediting and improving Ontario’s current compliance offset protocol adaption process; communicating the unique opportunities linked to economic and properly designed Ontario forest protocol and project activities; and underscoring critical GHG and socio-economic benefits associated with biological projects for compliance entities and Ontario’s rural, Northern and First Nations communities.
As an initial joint exercise, IETA – with input from the Coalition – prepared and delivered a letter to the Ontario Premier’s Office and key Ministerial offices highlighting strong support for Ontario’s use of market instruments to meet climate goals and drive co-benefits. The letter also voices concern about delays and uncertainties related to Ontario’s offset program and protocol adaptation efforts.
